Baggage Allowance
Cabin baggage: American Airlines accepts one piece of hand luggage for free with maximum dimensions of 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm (22 x 14 x 9 inches) and a smaller bag or briefcase with maximum dimensions of 45 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm (18 x 14 x 8 inches) to be placed underneath the seat in front. There are no weight limits for cabin bags, as long as they fit in the overhead locker.
Checked baggage: As a rule of thumb, the limits for this type of baggage are 23 kilos / 50 pounds (32 kilos / 70 pounds for Business) and 158 cm / 62 inches (sum of the three dimensions). Up to 10 bags may be checked for domestic (US, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Canada), transatlantic or transpacific flights. Up to 5 bags are allowed for passengers traveling to, via or from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America or South America.
