“An excellent hotel!”

This Hotel was excellent in every aspect! The Hotel layout, the Staff, rooms, the food, even the DJ were top drawer. We had a really relaxing weeks holiday and even though we never go back to the same Hotel we definitely would go back to La Mola. Thank you!

We had a pleasant stay at Hotel Riu Palace La Mola. The location is definitely one of its biggest strengths, with beautiful sea views and easy access to the beach. The hotel is modern, clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The rooms were comfortable and well maintained, and there was a good variety of food at the buffet, although some meals were better than others. The facilities were enjoyable, especially the pool area, but at busy times it could feel a little crowded. Overall, it's a good hotel in a fantastic location and offers good value for a relaxing holiday. While there are a few areas that could be improved to make the experience truly exceptional, we enjoyed our stay and would consider returning.

“No value for money”

Overall, quite a disappointing experience… for an impressive price they charge (8,000 + euros for three rooms for 5 nights), the value for money is quite low. Overall, quite a disappointing experience… for an impressive price they charge (8,000 + euros for three rooms for 5 nights), the value for money is quite low. There are no water bottles in the room and no nearby places to buy them, only a hotel bar at inflated prices. People come to the pool at 08:00 am, before it opens, throw their towels to occupy the sun beds and leave. At 09:00 am, at the opening there are barely any free beds. At the beach, there are no sun umbrellas available for thr hotel guests. The dinner is decent with a very nice variety of food, but the breakfast could have had more healthy options.

Let’s start with the good things: this hotel is beautifully situated on one of the most beautiful parts of Formentera’s southern coastline, with its mix of graphic rock formations and fine quasi-white sand blending into electric turquoise crystalline waters that rival the Maldives. You are walking distance from some of the loveliest beach shacks and beach restaurants and the prettiest little cove on the island and even to the pretty coves of the north side of the island when the wind favors it. Service was very pleasant during our stay, Juanma and Andrea at reception in particular, as well as the very efficient Rocio, at Illios, the beach-front restaurant. Food in the main buffet restaurant is not bad as big resort buffets go. Housekeeping was good, rooms well maintained and clean. The well-equipped gym is very pleasant and huge, with a pleasant view onto greenery (and a car park). And that was all the good stuff. At reception, unlike with her aforementioned colleagues, interacting with the more mature lady who checked us in (I think her name was Rausching though it may have been her colleague who looks very similar) was an experience in unpleasant, condescending lies, and she treated her colleagues just as badly as the clients. All with a fake smile of course… Other than that, this hotel is incredibly ill conceived. The spa is tiny so there is no chance to get in there or to get a massage unless you are very lucky. And the a la carte restaurant Krystal (which is a dark claustrophobic place) has something like 12 tables, when the hotel has 300 rooms. No chance to exercise your right to the one dinner you are entitled to there during your half board stay. The whole hotel has recently been renovated, with an incredible lack of taste… unless you love fake plants and flowers everywhere, badly tended gardens and a main restaurant and lobby with views of the back of buildings. And the lobby has an oppressively low false ceiling you can easily touch (with your head if you are a basketball player). Some rooms in the older Mola 1 building, built right on the beach, have great direct sea views (only some…. because others have views of the back of the sun loungers at the pool or even of walls), while the sea view rooms of the building further back (Mola 2) are in fact distant sea views marred by the view of all the “bungalows” and the back of Mola 1. Some of Mola 2’s rooms inexplicably have balconies right on the main restaurant’s terrace. Not above… but directly on the level of the restaurant. Your balcony is IN the restaurant. So, your view (and soundscape) is…diners. All rooms have the noise of one of the restaurants or lounge bar except the bungalows, but the bungalows only have views of walls (or car parks) and are dark, charmless places to stay. The main pool area is ok, with lovely sea views. The two other pools are not worth mentioning. During our stay, Illios, the well situated and more successfully designed beach front restaurant, closed at 15:00 (!!!!!) meaning you could not have a drink or anything by the beach during the afternoon or during sunset. That changes in June, thank God. It is a la carte. I do not know if half board includes one dinner there instead of Krystal. I hope it does. Circulation is absurd. To get from the rooms in Mola 1 to the main restaurant you have to walk outside (great when it rains) across an ugly car park and a long way up to the main lobby level to then go down again one level. The main restaurant feels incredibly crowded at breakfast and dinner The beach towel system is worthy of a tacky 3-star hotel. The kettle and instant coffee solution in the rooms (instead of a capsule based Nespresso-style machine) is also very 3 star. In fact, the whole place feels like a high end 3-star, not like a “4star -superior” as it is currently rated and priced. I have been to many cheaper and way better 5 stars. All in all, this is a way over-priced place to stay, when the island offers a lot of less crowded and more charming places for the same price… I guess they get away with it thanks to the unrivaled beauty of the sea here which makes you forget everything.
