We must admit to being a little sceptical before flying out to this hotel. We should not have worried, however, as it turned out to be a great hotel in a quiet location. The rooms were very large, well furnished and very clean. The staff were all excellent, very friendly and helpful. Some had difficulty with English, but we managed with our limited spanish. There were always sunbeds available around the pool, the food was good, mostly spanish style and very tasty. The weather was a little too hot for us, so we didn't venture out much - just one half day trip to Mojacar, which was lovely. We also walked into 'town' one evening and had a lovely Indian meal. All in all we really enjoyed our one week holiday.

“Genuinely deserves its four star rating and excellent value for money”

We stayed at Ohtels Cabogata from 25th June to 2nd July with our nearly three year old son and had a fantastic week. We booked through Jet2, who rate the hotel as 3+ stars, but having stayed there, I genuinely feel it deserves a full four star rating, which is why I’ve rated it 4/5. We normally holiday in Fuerteventura, but after finding it quite chilly and windy during our last visit, we decided to try this area instead. The weather was perfect and we’d absolutely return. On arrival we were upgraded to a Junior Suite, which was a lovely surprise. The room was huge, spotlessly clean and had two king size beds next to each other, giving us loads of space as a family. The air conditioning was excellent, which made sleeping really comfortable, and there was a surprisingly good selection of TV channels, including CBBC, which was a lifesaver with a nearly three year old! We had no issues with noise either. Despite the evening entertainment running quite late, we couldn’t hear a thing from our room. Check in was quick and easy and the staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived. Every member of staff we came across was friendly, happy and helpful. There were a couple of occasions where we struggled to understand each other, but we were in Spain and completely respected that Spanish is their first language. We always managed to work it out in the end. One thing that really stood out to me was how safe I felt. I always worry about leaving our belongings in hotel rooms when we’re on holiday, but I genuinely didn’t worry once during our stay. The whole hotel had a really safe, relaxed atmosphere and it meant I could completely switch off. The highlight of the holiday was definitely the splash park and water slides. Our little boy absolutely loved them and wanted to go every single day. He’s still talking about them now! The splash park closes for a while during the hottest part of the day, but we actually found this worked perfectly as it gave us the ideal opportunity to take him back to the room for his afternoon nap before heading back out. The pools and splash park were spotless throughout the week. Another huge positive was that there was no sunbed reserving. On almost every all inclusive holiday we’ve been on, people are out at the crack of dawn putting towels on beds. There was none of that here and we never struggled to find somewhere to sit, which made the atmosphere feel so much more relaxed. We mainly stayed around the splash park rather than the main pool, so we didn’t join in with the daytime entertainment, although it always looked like people were having a great time when we walked past. We also didn’t make it to the evening entertainment or mini disco because they started later than our son’s bedtime, but we knew that before travelling. We’d rate the food around 4/5. There was always something for our toddler and we never struggled to feed him. The food could become a little repetitive and there wasn’t a huge amount of variety, although we’re admittedly quite fussy eaters. Dinner doesn’t start until 8pm, whereas we’re used to eating around 5.30pm. However, we knew this before booking and completely appreciate that later dining is part of Spanish culture. Drinks during meals are table service rather than self service, including soft drinks, which was a little different to what we’re used to. The all inclusive drinks were what you’d expect, although they did a really nice non alcoholic lager. One small disappointment was the pool bar food. The all inclusive snacks weren’t available all day, with the included food stopping for a few hours around the middle of the day. You could still buy food during this time, including items that would normally be included in the all inclusive package. For us, this meant getting dried off and changed to go into the restaurant when we’d have preferred to grab something light by the pool and carry on enjoying the afternoon. It certainly wasn’t a deal breaker, but it’s worth knowing. The hotel itself was spotless and our room was cleaned every day to a high standard. The only real downside for us was the WiFi, which was slow and often didn’t work. We also thought a small hotel shop would have been useful for essentials, and there wasn’t a kettle in the room, although hot drinks were available from the bars. The beach is only a short walk away. It’s a pebble beach, so beach shoes are definitely worth taking, but the sea was lovely. Outside the hotel there isn’t a huge amount to do, although there is a shop & small supermarket, a pharmacy and other essentials within walking distance. We needed paracetamol for our little boy during the holiday and the pharmacy was only around a ten minute walk away. We also spent a day in Almería, which was lovely. A taxi cost around £25 each way, which we thought was very reasonable, and there are plenty of bus stops nearby if you’d rather use public transport. For the Taxi we just downloaded and used “Freenow” which operated like Uber. Another thing that was excellent value was late check out. For just €30 we were able to keep our room until 5pm instead of checking out at midday. Travelling with a toddler, this was worth every penny as it meant he could have his usual afternoon nap before we headed to the airport. We can understand why some reviews say the hotel is geared more towards Spanish guests, but we were staying in Spain and didn’t see that as a negative. Everyone made us feel welcome and we completely respected that Spanish is the main language. Overall, we had a brilliant holiday and thought it offered exceptional value for money. It’s perfect for families with young children, but would also suit couples and older guests looking for a relaxing break. If you’re looking for nightlife or lots to do outside the hotel, this probably isn’t the place for you. However, if you’re after a clean, friendly hotel with great facilities, a fantastic splash park and a genuinely relaxing atmosphere, we’d definitely recommend it. We came home with a very happy little boy who is still talking about the water slides, and we’d happily stay here again.

“DONT BOTHER GOING.”

On a plus we had free upgrade to a suite.....Now for the negative the food very competitive and cold. On a plus we had free upgrade to a suite.....Now for the negative the food very competitive and cold. Out of 10 days staying there we had to grab our own water from the buffet restaurant each evening as we were continuously ignored by some staff..although not all. On the day we were going home, we were declined to pay to stay in our room until pick up. Being all inclusive also denide lunch at the buffet restaurant. We were literally jumped upon in the restaurant and the staff saying we couldn't have lunch. Very rude and embarrassing. Was a long day from breakfast until our pick up 7.30pm. Our room was 1302 from the 13th June.. WE WONT BE BACK .
