This is a great hotel which would easily have a 5 star review bar a some minor niggles: So the good bits, every staff member I encountered went above and beyond to be helpful, absolutely outstanding in every respect, check in was simple and straight forward, the rooms were pretty good and meticulously cleaned every day, the cleaners little animals and shapes left on the bed were very amusing and great fun to come back to, the food was brilliant (hand gel available everywhere) with a fantastic selection of food to meet everyone’s palate, the three speciality restaurants were great but in all honesty, the main restaurant was easily and by far the best, the location of Cabo Verde hotel is near to both Santa Maria town and the Botanical Gardens, both worth a visit (€5 taxi each way) and the evening entertainment was varied and enjoyable, The White Party was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, do not miss it! So the niggly bits of irritation - to be by the pool with some peace and quiet to get into a book or take a nap was a non starter due to the loud booming music from the bar area and the entertainment team activities and constant ‘applause’ - it would be great to have a quiet area set aside for those of us that just want some peaceful rest and relaxation time. The beach was a bit of a gauntlet to get to as you had to negotiate all the ticket touts that congregate at the exit gate, they literally bottle neck you so you have to get by every single one of them in turn, you say no the first one and the next one moves in on you straight away, it’s exhausting. It would be great if they could be moved further away and lastly, the accommodation block corridors, they always have the cleaners trolleys left out, we had four parked outside our room overnight at one point but most days it was just the two, it’s not very nice to open your door and a cleaning trolley is the first thing you see every time, not to mention they are actually a hazardous obstacle when left at the top of the stairs! As I say, only niggles not show stoppers but worth mentioning. 5th visit to Cape Verde Sal island (plus one to Boa Vista) and as per all of my previous visits, it was wonderful.
