San José - Tortuguero National Park

Day 2: Early morning pick-up from the hotel to head towards the east of the country. The tour starts by showing some of the beautiful Costa Rican countrysides. It passes through the Braulio Carrillo National Park, an area of rugged rainforest-covered mountains draped in lush vegetation that creeps to the very edges of the road. The landscape changes as we descend towards the coast - with more open areas of vegetation with flat land, farms and ranches until reaching Guapiles, where a traditional breakfast will be served. From here, the route continues in a northeasterly direction along the Parismina River and then goes off-road over a vast plain with cattle ranches and banana plantations until reaching the river port, where we'll board the boat and set sail through this system of breathtaking natural waterways. During the trip, you'll see many examples of the unique and natural surroundings of this area. Arrival at the hotel which sits on the canal bank and has buildings surrounded by typical gardens, integrated in the natural area. Allocation of rooms and lunch at hotel. In the afternoon, a visit to the small town of Tortuguero is included where the indigenous Mayans used to live off hunting and fishing. Today it is still a pocket-sized town that lives off fishing, tourism and the sale of locally-produced handicrafts. Dinner and overnight stay.

Tortuguero National Park

Day 3: Full-board accommodation in the hotel. Several activities are planned during this day, such as hiking and sailing on the National Park canals which will give you the chance to see and enjoy the amazing wildlife living in this Park. This is the most emblematic reserve in the country and the most important area for the nesting of sea turtles. Formed by a wide flooded plain which is crossed by a natural system of lakes and waterways and peaked by low hills, the park is full of dense forests featuring a wide variety of plant life, including the presence of coconut trees on the coast and wet and swampy forests inland, filled with trees that reach great heights. This lush vegetation is the perfect habitat for a rich and varied fauna, where monkeys are seen in abundance (howler, white-faced and red), as are toucans, green macaws and herons. It's also common to observe crocodiles, terrestrial and freshwater turtles, colourful frogs, iguanas and basilisks. Other inhabitants of these forests, although a bit more difficult to spot, are endangered mammals such as manatees, tapirs, anteaters and jaguars. After this morning tour, we'll return to the hotel for lunch and a rest. Afternoon at your leisure to enjoy the hotel facilities or take part in some of the optional activities or outings that are offered. The long, straight beaches here are ideal for the nesting of large sea turtles such as the Leatherback, the Hawksbill and the Green, which head ashore to lay their eggs protected by the darkness of the night. Hawksbill turtles lay their eggs in this area between July and October, Leatherbacks between February and July, more frequently in April and May, while Green turtles appear between July and October. The local hotels organise special trips to the beach during these months, always in small groups and accompanied by specialist guides. This tour is not included in the price. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Sandrina Carreira

It was amazing but I think you should better choose the hotels where people stay. Some of them were amazing, and the other ones creepy! Costa Rica is phenomenal, and it was one of my favorite trip ever!
