“Great holiday”

Returned home yesterday from 10 fabulous days at the hotel. We are a family of 4 adults and 2 toddlers. Every person who works here go above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect for you to have a good holiday. Loads to do and also has places if you want some chill out space. Returned home yesterday from 10 fabulous days at the hotel. We are a family of 4 adults and 2 toddlers. Every person who works here go above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect for you to have a good holiday. Loads to do and also has places if you want some chill out space. Food delicious as were the drinks. Only down side was the spa. I paid for hour massage and you only get 35 minutes. Work is being undertaken above the spa so not very relaxing with the power tools shaking the walls.

I just returned from 1 week at Royal Moderna and very impressed. We came as a family of 4 and I mistakenly booked 2 separate rooms, we arrived at 11.30pm and when we realized we phoned reception who immediately gave us a family room with 2 internal rooms. All staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. The food was nice, I am a fussy eater but I ate at the restaurant every day and night as there was plenty of choice. I drunk mostly Sakara lager which was good but the spirits wasn't the best which I read about before going so if you want spirits buy in uk airport before travelling. We used the pool by the beach as it was heated and has a bar and snack bar close by serving burgers, hot dog, pasta, pizza, salad etc. A big shout out has to go to the drink bar staff by this pool, excellent 2 guys who went above and beyond expectations from serving drinks around pool and sorting out loungers for us and their friendly fun attitude. I will definitely be booking this hotel again. A few tips we learnt Take American dollars for tipping Take pens for filling in paperwork at airport Carry your own luggage at airport as there are men waiting at your taxi when it stops to take your luggage and expect a lot more than a regular tip and are rude when they don't get it. Tip cleaner daily for nice towel arrangements when you get back from pool

“Amazing hotel”

Had a lovely relaxing 7 days here , food and staff all excellent. A special mention to Osama Ahmed the beach bar who nothing was to much trouble and kept us hydrated all day long .

I recently stayed at Pickalbatros Royal Moderna and would rate the experience a 3.5 out of 5. From the moment I arrived, the first impression felt flatter than expected for a hotel that presents itself as five-star. There were no welcome drinks, no warm greeting, and I found myself standing at the reception desk for several minutes before needing to actively get someone’s attention to check me in. It wasn’t a disastrous start, just noticeably lacking that sense of hospitality you hope for after travelling. Thankfully, things improved once I reached my room. My request for a quieter location had been honoured and I was placed near the quiet pool, with a balcony overlooking still blue water and neatly arranged sunbeds. This part of the hotel felt calm and relaxing, with soft background noise rather than music and crowds. It was also conveniently positioned a short stroll away from the bars and restaurants, so it felt peaceful without being isolated. The dining experience, however, was one of the more frustrating aspects of the stay. The hotel has several restaurants, each offering slightly different versions of similar food. In practice, this meant wandering from one buffet to another, plate in hand, lifting lids and scanning trays trying to decide what to commit to. The first night it felt like variety; by the third night it felt like a chore. During the day, food options are limited to a single beachside snack bar serving burgers, pizza, spaghetti bolognese and fruit. The menu doesn’t change, and the flavours are quite plain, so after a couple of days it starts to feel repetitive and uninspiring. One genuine bright spot is the coffee and cake café in the main hotel building. The smell of fresh coffee and warm pastries drifting out into the corridor was a welcome treat each day, and the drinks and cakes there were noticeably better quality than much of the other food on offer. Evenings were very quiet. After sunset, the hotel seemed to lose energy. There was no real entertainment to draw people together, and once dinner was over there wasn’t much to do. The Irish bar became the only real option, but it played loud Russian music on repeat and seemed to cater mostly to Russian guests, which made it feel less inviting if you weren’t part of that group. The nights felt long and uneventful rather than lively or relaxing. Where this hotel truly shines is at the beach and pier. This is the part that makes you pause and think, “this is why I came.” The long pier stretches out over crystal clear water, and even before you reach the end, you can look down and see coral formations and colourful fish swimming beneath you. There are several small platforms with sunbeds and steps leading into the sea, and at the very end is a larger decking area where you can jump straight into deeper water. Snorkelling here is incredible — the coral reef is vibrant and alive with fish of every colour. It’s the kind of place where you can float in the water for ages just watching marine life pass by. I would strongly recommend bringing your own snorkel from home, as hiring or buying one there is expensive. The hotel itself is quite remote, so getting anywhere requires a taxi. Booking through the hotel is costly, so I recommend using the InDrive app, which is simple and much cheaper. Just be sure to confirm the agreed price with the driver before getting in, as they sometimes try to increase it. Shopping in the nearby area can feel overwhelming, with persistent sellers and very high starting prices for bargaining. For a much calmer experience, it’s worth going into town to a shop called Fixed Price, where items are labelled clearly and reasonably without the stress of haggling. I also booked a boat excursion through GetYourGuide, which was a highlight and very enjoyable. In terms of facilities, the hotel falls slightly short of its five-star claim. The gym is free, clean and perfectly usable, though fairly basic. The sauna and steam room require an extra fee, which feels surprising for a resort of this category. The internet connection, however, was impressively fast and reliable throughout the site, especially in the quieter areas. The January weather was ideal, with warm sunshine between 22–28°C most days, making it perfect for being outdoors. The staff experience was mixed. Some members of staff were genuinely warm, friendly and helpful, and those interactions stood out. However, there were also several who appeared tired, disengaged or grumpy. On a few occasions, staff were quite direct about asking for tips, which felt awkward and uncomfortable rather than appreciated. Overall, this hotel has some standout strengths — particularly the beach, the snorkelling, the peaceful room location and the excellent café — but it lacks the polish, atmosphere, food quality and consistent hospitality you would expect from a five-star resort. With improvements in service, dining experience and evening entertainment, it could be much better. As it stands, I would rate it 3.5 out of 5.
