Monte Calor Hotel Sharm is an excellent hotel. It features beautiful gardens filled with lovely flowers. The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained, and the food is more than excellent. However, the entertainment team is very weak. As for the reception and front office staff, they are always happy, welcoming, and smiling. We were greeted with towels and flowers upon arrival. Thank you to the reception team — you truly made us happy.

“Lovely one week all inclusive stay with heated pool”

Lovely week long all inclusive stay. We were welcomed with a soft drink we were taken by golf cart to our room. This was a large room with a balcony & sea view. The room is a bit dated but had a large comfortable bed,large bathroom with bath & shower. The swimming pool towel was provided in the room and changed every day. The pool was fantastic only part of it was heated and that was 28C (my husband’s fitness app on watch measured it!) There was enough room for adults to lap swim & children to play. I note from previous comments that the music at pool was noisy and agree at times it was but it was possible to find quieter areas by using the sunbeds overlooking the sea rather than by the pool. One day they had a foam party at the pool - fun for the kids! There was a pier down to the sea and free snorkels and masks available to swim the reef. Lots of fish could be seen from the pier itself if you don’t like snorkelling. This hotel was surrounded by lovely well tended gardens and the whole complex was super tidy & clean. The main buffet had lots of salad selection, hot dishes and so many cakes! There is also a dining area for adults. We tried the à la carte restaurants which we booked the night before but they weren’t that great - we preferred the buffet. On our first day I was approached to purchase massages but not pressured. I did the next day go to the Spa & book 3 massage deal which included access to sauna, jacuzzi and steam any time. The massages were great. As part of our holiday package we believed we had access to spa at any time but apparently it was morning only. There is a small gym with old equipment in quite a depressing small room. We also had breakfast at the Royal level on our final day which was a nice treat. The staff were pleasant & attentive through

The sounds you want to hear when 2,500 miles from home are sounds you could never hear at home: I’m thinking of the sound of a warm breeze rustling the leaves of tall palms. Or perhaps the sound of the Red Sea washing over rocks. Maybe even a waiter, asking ‘two more G+Ts?’ Unfortunately, too … more

The sounds you want to hear when 2,500 miles from home are sounds you could never hear at home: I’m thinking of the sound of a warm breeze rustling the leaves of tall palms. Or perhaps the sound of the Red Sea washing over rocks. Maybe even a waiter, asking ‘two more G+Ts?’ Unfortunately, too often, these noises were completely drowned out by thumping amplified nightclub ‘bangers’ with oppressive bass. The music was difficult to escape, even by moving as far away as you could get (for example, right up by the roped-off, more exclusive beach). The songs were 30 years old and not even very good in the 1990s! And the music went on for hours in the middle of every day. There were a great many things this hotel did really well. The landscaping was like a particularly lovely botanical garden. The private rooms and communal spaces were spotless. All the staff were wonderful. Mahmoud on the front desk was exceptional - very efficient and straightforward and just the right amount of friendly. He’d be a brilliant concierge in Mayfair, Manhattan… anywhere! But if it’s literally impossible to doze off in the sun by the pool - which is surely what people travel from so far away to do - can a hotel be truly excellent? I’m not sure. Finally, if eating at the specialist restaurants, order what sounds like ‘kabab hallah’ at Farouszh. Delicious!
