“A Resort in Transition: Warm Hospitality Amidst Growing Pains!”

We visited this hotel in December 2025 and left with mixed impressions, though not without optimism. This review aims to be fair both to prospective guests and to the hotel itself, which is clearly undergoing a period of significant change. It is worth stating at the outset that this review could easily have been far more critical. During our stay, we encountered several serious issues, including a swimming pool that posed serious safety concerns, malfunctioning and dangerous air-conditioning units, and a particularly disappointing à la carte dining experience. Initial attempts to raise these matters with reception and via the hotel’s “Contact Us” WhatsApp channel went unanswered, which was frustrating (we are still waiting for a response). However, matters improved considerably following a chance meeting with the General Manager, Mr Khaled. He explained that he was very new in place and that the hotel had recently been taken over by the Amarina Hotels Group, and that extensive refurbishment and redevelopment plans were already underway. This context helped explain why many areas of the resort and several on-site restaurants were closed or visibly tired, and why the hotel’s website pictures, depicting a long-past heyday, did not reflect the current reality. At the time of our visit, the property felt closer to a two-star experience than the five-star description advertised, a view shared by Love Holidays, who partially refunded our booking after we highlighted several unacceptable conditions. That said, visible improvements were already in progress: exterior areas were being repainted, work had begun to make the pool safe and new management were being employed, even before our departure. Dining Experiences: From Disappointment to Improvement: The canteen style main restaurant was adequate and offered a satisfactory dining experience. The à la carte restaurant best illustrates the hotel’s transitional state, however. It’s first-floor outdoor terrace offers the finest view of the beach and is undoubtedly one of the resort’s most attractive settings. Unfortunately, the initial dining experience fell well below expectations. There was no menu choice; simply a plate of over-charred meat placed before us. When my vegetarian sister raised her dietary requirements, the plate was removed and returned with a piece of fish placed directly on top of the meat! While this was clearly unacceptable, management explained that a new catering and beverages manager had just been appointed and that changes were imminent. To their credit, we were invited back later in the week, when the experience was vastly improved, with a genuine choice of meat or fish and a far more professional service. The Asian and beach restaurants were closed during our stay, so we are unable to comment on these. The Resort and Its Surroundings: The resort itself is spread across several buildings set within ‘landscaped’ gardens. However, many surrounding structures and grounds were closed and appeared neglected, detracting from the overall aesthetic; again, reflecting its long-past heyday. A short walk to nearby shops was unpleasant due to strong sewage odours along the road, although the beachfront path offered a more enjoyable stroll, revealing neighbouring hotels that were clean, inviting, and aspirational by comparison. While this hotel is rightly positioned as a cost-effective option, there is much it could learn from its peers. Guests should also be aware that neighbouring hotels employ extremely vigilant security, discouraging even the slightest deviation from the designated path! Final Thoughts: The staff are, without exception, excellent, attentive, warm, and genuinely committed to offering a fine guest experience. Their efforts often compensated for shortcomings elsewhere. With improved bar drink offerings and a move away from serving all drinks in small paper coffee cups, the guest experience would be further enhanced. Overall, we enjoyed a relaxing break in the sun at a reasonably priced resort. If the ambitious plans outlined by the new ownership and management come to fruition, this hotel has the potential to become a truly appealing beachfront destination with strong facilities and outstanding staff. A return visit in the coming months may well tell a very different and far more satisfying story. We wish them well!
